Who wants to play detective? If that’s you, get ready.

HBO‘s True Detective will debut season three on Sunday Jan. 13 at 8 p.m CST, and oh what a wild ride this show has been.

The first season featuring Matthew McConaughey knocked it out of the park, but the second season didn’t hold the same interest for fans of the show.

In fact, while the second season didn’t seem to connect with viewers, most thought the show was dead in the water. However, this does not seem to be the case. In fact, Season 3 looks pretty promising.

Set in 1980 in West Finger, AR, Season 3 Of True Detective recounts the case of two children, Tom and Lucy Purcell, who go missing just days after Halloween. The series also focuses on a retired detective Wayne Hays (Mahershala Ali) who was the original detective to take on the case. At the request of a true-crime producer he recalls his accounts. He’s featured alongside his partner Roland West (played by Stephen Dorff.)

Heavy hitter Ali takes on the task of performing THREE timelines recounting the case without confusing viewers – which can always be a pain to an audience – and is often not pulled off well by filmmakers. However, it appears that creator Nic Pizzolatto has crafted with precision.

Let’s take a peek:

So set your calendars all, Sunday Jan. 13 at 8 p.m CST as it should be quite interesting with two heavy hitters in the game.

In the meantime, here are some other one’s that we’re loving. What’s On.
